The original paperwork lists the manufacturer as GFG "Geländefahrzeug-Gesellschaft", a joint venture between Daimler-Benz and Steyr-Daimler-Puch in Austria at the time. This is one of the last vehicles with this manufacturer designation; shortly after, "Daimler-Benz" appeared as the listed manufacturer in registration documents.

A full MATTER roll bar was installed in 1991—as per vehicle records—and is still present.

Includes a small roof rack system for the transport of long equipment.

The long-wheelbase 280 GE is the largest and most powerful G-Class model from the first series that could be ordered ex works in the early years.

The 6-cylinder inline petrol engine M110 with 2717 cc and 115 kW/156 PS runs well.

A power take-off (PTO) for operating the generator is also installed.

The vehicle has primarily transported a portable fire pump (TS) with suction hoses and accessories. Thus, there are no rear seats, only a load bay. No other seats besides the two front ones are present.

According to the original documents, it is a "3-seater" and the registration type is "Other special-purpose vehicle: advance equipment fire service vehicle (VRW)".

Empty weight is recorded as 2,360 kg.

Gross vehicle weight was increased from the original 2,900 kg to 3,030 kg (as per 1991 entry).

This gives the 280 GE a current payload capacity of 670 kg.

Total dimensions: Length 4,395 mm / Width 1,700 mm / Height 2,150 mm.

Tires: 205/80R16.

Fitted with good winter tires featuring the snowflake symbol as per current legal requirement (DOT = 2018).

While the G does not have a trailer hitch, the required base crossmember is installed. Details on retrofit/trailer load are not feasible, as the original registration document lists the trailer load field as "not applicable".

The 280 GE is immediately available and ready for registration. It was most recently driven a long distance on the motorway to our location without any issues. According to verbal accounts, the vehicle is accident-free, although this cannot be verified and is therefore passed on as a "tradition" to the buyer.

The vehicle has always been carefully maintained but has also seen use. One should not expect a new car, but can anticipate a vehicle with solid substance and, for its 1981 build year, in good condition.
